Thesis: Design Or Calculation Grid System (2007)

Identity, a much discussed topic during the study Graphic Design. Thinking about your identity is not an easy task. What are the factors that determine ‘you’? On what do those factors depend and how variable can this actually all be?

After quite a search, I came to conclusions. Bound to those conclusions I developed a grid system to visualize someones identity. Suddenly my role as a designer was up for discussion. Who still needs a designer, right?

From my own perspective, I have determined that my identity is in contant motion within a framework of solid data. And ofcourse it will also remain subject to changes within my the environment that I live in.

This fixed data such as my name is not changeable in this system, but neither decisive for the existence of my own identity. If my name had been different, I would always remain to be ‘me’.

The framework, in which the identity moves, is placed on top of a fixed template. All possible multiple choiche answers are linked to its own icon, with each a different color or gradation. Within the template, all data also has a fixed place. Because the data is variable, the template will always have an unique appearance when filled in.
